Reflection

With every googly eye I added, this piece slowly developed a strong sense of paranoia. My inspiration for the main idea of the piece was based on how chaotic and anxiety filled my character appears. Bun is living in a city that is extremely normal and boring, and his racing mind cannot handle its’ simplicity. The town I’ve created is my character’s hallucination of where he lives. Bun is a window washer, and while in his head he imagines the buildings he cleans to be upside down, he can be seen flying with his head to the ground and his feet to the sky. The city is built around Bun’s fears of being watched or followed. I’ve included confusing road signs that are bound to point anyone in the wrong direction and a clock that always reads with the wrong time. His house is guarded by massive flower plants that have 24 hour surveillance on the front door. When designing what the average citizens of this city looked like, I stuck with very generic characters because in Bun’s eyes, they are all the same. This may be his biggest fear of all, the way they question nothing and carry on with their boring, routine lives.

The process of creating this piece was so interesting because it forced me to step into my character’s mind. I was forced to bring him to life, create a narrative, and find the meaning in every detail. I feel that this world matches the essence of Bun and it further develops how he navigates his mind. If I were to do things different, I would sketch more options before jumping right into my first idea. This would help me plan out the best order to hang up different elements in the piece. If I had more time I would add on to the clouds below the desk. I believe this idea could be pushed even further as I’ve made the top of the piece very void looking and the space below would be representative of where the sky would be since the buildings have been flipped.
