Reflection

After reading the excerpt I had to work with, I decided to focus my outcomes around the paranoid mood of the writing and the warped sense of reality from the perspective of the narrator. The first outcome I worked on was a 3D piece with two houses being split by a brick wall. The concept was this piece was that the house that’s normal looking is reality and the chaotic house on the flip side is what the narrator sees in their head. I used card board, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, paint, and string to create the final piece. After this I wanted to find another way to display the idea of a split perspective which lead to the making of my painted piece of a house with a clear layer over which I drew different demons and scary monsters on. This is also interactive, as the viewer can lift the top layer. Next I zoomed into the entry way aspect of the home and created my third outcome, a door into the house. This piece is also interactive, as the viewer can open the door and get a peak at all the chaos inside. I created lots of cutouts of demons in the same style as the previous piece to hang around the entry way. I also created a riso print based off a line in the excerpt about music ringing in the neighbors’ ears. I printed this in red to add onto the chaotic energy of the piece and used it as a background to create depth.
